Genetics

Genetic code of each
Fokonik is combination of basic horse genes and special genes characteristic only for Folkoniks. These genes defines all ornaments or mutations. Each Folkonik will get its own code right after is born.

Specifical markings of Folkoniks resembles folk ornaments. During time and with careful breeding were created different types of these ornaments, starting with almost extinct geometrical ornaments, through most common floral ornaments to rare animal ornaments. Geometrical ornaments are considered most rare, and are characteristic for half-wild Folkoniks.

Ornamental markings can cover all of horses body,
but usually don't appear on muzzle, around eyes, at belly or at hooves. Markings can cover whole body or just small part, but both of these examples are rare, and it's common they cover only 30% of horses body.

By genetics also depends complexity of ornaments, breeding two
pure blood Folkoniks results in foal which usually has its own unique markings, more complex than its parents. On the other side, crossbreed foal has less complex and poor markings, which are only copy of its parents markings. Crossbreed horses don't have genes to produce foals with original markings, as they own are only copied.

Animal ornaments are rare and
oftenly signs horse will have good relationships with other animals, also they can characterize horses nature. Color of the markings depends on base color of the horse, lighter horses are more colorful, while darker horses tends to have lighter, usually white markings.

Pure blood Folkoniks can have all basic solid colors or their modifications, most common color is gray, most rare black or light coats like cremello
or champagne. Appaloosa and paint coats can have only crossbreeds.

Nature of the ornaments depends on base
color, geometrical ornaments can appear only on darker horses and may be combined with more complex ornaments. Grays have almost always blue markings, but also other colors can be found. Also, crossbreeding or inbreeding can change ornaments, some of their parts can be lighter than others, or can have different colors.

Although in past was inbreeding standard, and resulted in blue
colored markings, nowadays is not recommended due to illnesses or errors it can make. Markings can fade, or horse is born without them, also can have feathering appearance or modifies horses base color.
